Still No Idea

Still No Idea

Best mates Lisa and Rachael are making a new show almost a decade after they created their first piece together. Back then they had no idea where to start so they went onto the streets and asked the public. What story should they tell? What characters should they play? When they saw Lisa in a wheelchair and Rachael not, what the public said was funny, jaw-dropping and ultimately heartbreaking. They made a show about it. It was called No Idea. Now people say the world has changed and things are looking up. There are more disabled people in the mainstream media, Lisa landed a big part on TV and disabled mates are getting regular auditions - happy days. So what kind of exciting stories are the TV professionals dreaming up for them? Still No Idea is the whole story (so far): the British public, the professional writers, the TV execs. Part verbatim theatre, part improv, part comedy sketch show, this is a raucous and mischievous exposé of good intentions gone bad and how sometimes no matter how hard we try, we still have absolutely no idea.

Drunken Space Pirates!

Drunken Space Pirates!

Running from a mutinous crew, sucked through a wormhole like in a bad sci-fi movie and slowly running out of booze . . . and that’s just the beginning of this non-traditional story that starts off as a simple captain’s log book and evolves into something more like a really warped and twisted TV show in text. Follow the Captain and crew on a series of seemingly random adventures, where it’s obvious it’s not just the Captain who’s been drinking. At some point you may ask yourself, is all this just coincidence or is there something dark and annoying on the horizon? The Captain seems to have a drinking problem, the problem being he never has enough to drink and people from his past keep showing up and ruining his buzz / Akki a corrupted artificial intelligence who occasionally takes over the Captain’s log has his own plans, mostly self-serving ones because he has nothing better to do. The rest of the crew, pirates, hot chicks, robots and a foul beaked little space penguin round out the Drunken Space Pirates and with all the wise cracks and shots aimed at everyone and everything its clear the alcohol flows rather freely within the D.S.P. Many of the off the wall characters of the D.S.P. are walking guilty pleasures who say what they feel, do what they want and just generally give it to life, pop culture and the universe in general with both barrels . . . and occasionally fish...

In the Still of the Night

Tales to Lock Your Doors By

In the Still of the Night

A collection of eight suspenseful tales from one of the century’s finest crime authors With stories published when the author was in her seventies and eighties, this collection proves that after five decades writing crime fiction, Dorothy Salisbury Davis has lost none of her edge. In “Christopher and Maggie,” based on Davis’s own experiences during the Great Depression, a traveling magician stumbles upon a murder victim. In other stories, a woman picks up the wrong hitchhiker, an ex-detective decides to make some money by getting rid of his wife—forever—and a man gets involved in a road accident from which he simply cannot drive away. The Manhattan gossip columnist and part-time sleuth Julie Hayes from A Death in The Life appears in two stories, “The Puppet” and “Justina.” Intelligent, chilling, and beautifully written, these stories are a reminder that in crime fiction, there is no substitute for the Grand Master’s touch.

Still No Ice at the Fish Market

A Fillet of Fiction in the Southern Gothic Style with Alternating Narrators

Still No Ice at the Fish Market

Still No Ice at the Fish Market opens with a bomb exploding in the midst of lovemaking and ends up as one of the most innovative literary experiments in years. Two narrators, Eddie Ambler and his former fiance Marsha Beauregard, unfold a harrowing but hilarious tale in alternating chapters, making a fillet of Poe and Southern Gothic storytellers. Eddie writes in huge, impassioned sentences with pyrotechnic imagery while dodging bombs galore. The woman he has loved and lost but hopes to win again confronts the chaos with exceptional clarity and precision. In the final chapter, after Marsha helps deliver Eddie from his nightmares, their divergent styles unite in deeper love, becoming indistinguishable. As the genius who guides these eerie games, the ghost of Poe is exorcised decisively in this rollicking, redemptive respite from the Gothic!
